A Competitive Fight? Frank Martin Believes Gervonta Davis Will “Dog” Lamont Roach
Lamont Roach doesn’t just talk like a man who thinks he can win, he talks like he knows it.

This Saturday night in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, the majority of the crowd that will be crammed into the arena will be expecting a Davis knockout win. Roach though, is happy to disappoint them all.

At least to a certain extent, Frank Martin carried himself in the exact same way. The highly ranked lightweight waved a finger in Davis’ face during their buildup back in June of 2024 and promised to punish him come fight night. Unfortunately for him, that isn’t how things played out.

Having lost to Davis via eighth-round stoppage, Martin knows how dangerous and how powerful he is. With that sort of first-hand knowledge, he isn’t giving Roach much of a chance.

“Tank’s gonna whoop him,” said Martin while being recorded recently by ESNEWS.

Roach, a champion at 130 pounds who decided to put his reign on hold to move up in weight, is fresh off a stoppage victory over Feargal McCrory. But even with that win, along with his title-winning efforts against Hector Luis Garcia, isn’t convincing Martin of anything.

By and large, Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) seemingly has bigger fish to fry. The boxing world, including Martin, wants to see him in the ring with the likes of Shakur Stevenson, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and a few others.

From Martin’s point of view, Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) is an innocuous speed bump. He won’t totally ignore what the 29-year-old can do. He has a bit of toughness to him and has worked on his skills enough to be mentioned amongst the elite. However, when the dust settles, Martin fully expects Davis to not only beat Roach but essentially embarrass him.

“Roach is a decent fighter,” continued Martin. “But Tank gonna dog him.”
