Mirco Cuello-Christian Olivo To Land on David Benavidez-David Morrell Undercard In Las Vegas
Mirco Cuello hopes to inch closer to a featherweight title shot in 2025.

An important step is being taken for his next outing. The Ring has learned that the unbeaten Argentinean will face Mexico’s Christian Olivo on the Feb. 1 David Benavidez-David Morrell undercard at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The stakes are still being determined—whether a final eliminator or for the interim WBA featherweight title.

Cuello (14-0, 11 KOs) is The Ring No. 7 featherweight contender, and is No. 3 with the WBA. Olivo (22-1-1, 8 KOs) is No. 5 in the most recent WBA featherweight rankings.

The winner will become the mandatory challenger to England’s Nick Ball (21-0-1, 12 KOs), who holds the full version of the WBA featherweight title. The Ring No. 2 contender next defends against former titleholder TJ Doheny (26-5, 20 KOs) on March 15 in his Liverpool hometown.

Cuello, 24, will return to the site of his previous outing, an eight-round win over Sulaiman Segawa last March 30 on the Sebastian Fundora-Tim Tszyu preliminary undercard. The bout represented his lone ring appearance of 2024 after a four-win campaign the year prior.

Olivo, 25, has won two straight since a ten-round defeat to Luis Nuñez (20-0, 13 KOs) in their April 2023 battle of unbeaten prospects. Both wins took place in Mexico, including a fourth-round knockout of Javier Carrillo (6-3-1, 3 KOs) last Sept. 27 in Ciudad Obregon, less than three hours from his Hermosillo hometown.

The show’s headliner will also determine a final eliminator in a rare unification matchup between reigning secondary titlists.

Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs), The Ring No. 2 light heavyweight contender, holds the interim WBC title at the weight. Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs), No. 8 at 175 by The Ring, is the WBA ‘World’ (Regular) 175-pound beltholder. The winner of their meeting will earn the next crack at The Ring/undisputed champion Artur Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs), who next rematches Dmitry Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) on Feb. 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
