Ellie Scotney Ready For Motu: I Feel Like I'll Be Doing My Debut Again
Within the space of nine fights, Catford’s Ellie Scotney has unified the super bantamweight title and collected the Ring Magazine title in the 122lb division.

After going through a real boom period, Women’s boxing entered something of a recession last year and Scotney, 9-0, was one of the major victims. After beating the previously unbeaten Segolene Lefebvre to add the WBO belt to her own IBF title in April, Scotney set her sights on quickly becoming the undisputed champion at super bantamweight.

It wasn’t to be. Dates proved difficult to come by and then when she was finally booked to defend her titles against the IBF’s mandatory challenger, Mea Motu, on the undercard of the super lightweight fight between Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis in October, injury forced the 26 year-old to withdraw from the fight.

The fight was eventually rescheduled and Scotney and Motu will meet on the undercard of Dalton Smith’s European title fight with Walid Ouizza which takes place in Nottingham on January 25th.

“I feel like it's been a long time coming, you know. By the time I get in the ring it'll be 10 months, so I feel like I'll be doing my debut again,” Scotney said in a video posted on social media.

“I’m ready to show a new side of me. It’s a lot of frustration, but all on God's timing.”

Motu, 20-0 (8 KOs), promises to provide the toughest test of Scotney’s career. The aggressive New Zealander previously held the IBO title and stopped the experienced Shannon O’Connell last year.

Scotney, however, has big plans for 2025 and is determined not to let Motu derail them.

“I'm boxing on the 25th of January, 2025, so, I don't know, it just feels like it's got a nice ring to it, but the mission's to become undisputed, so one at a time, but all eyes on the 25th,” she said.

“I know it's a serious fight I've got and I'm fully focused.”
